Boy Scout Troop 380 - Mesa, Arizona

Of the 294 US astronauts, more than 180 had been Boy Scouts in their youth; 40 were Eagle Scouts. Eleven of the twelve astronauts who walked on the moon were Scouts.

The Boy Scouts of America strive to provide boys with programs and goals that allow them to participate altruistically, do things they have not done before, build confidence, and learn ethical behavior. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The vision of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law. Another benefit of scouting at Troop 380, is the opportunity to make good friends.

Boy Scout Troop 380 (Find us on Facebook) was founded in March of 2009 and boasts four seven Eagle Scout, as well as many others achieving rank advancement and Merit Badge successes. We are about twenty-eight troopers strong and growing. The highest possible standards are maintained with each Scout to ensure we operate in a BSA mandated and academically challenging environment. Each Scout is held accountable to correctly learning Badge and Rank skills that help to ensure a safe experience. We are members of the BSA's Superstition District and Grand Canyon Council.

The six Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters have significant professional, personal and Boy Scouting credentials and have completed BSA mandated training. Our present Scoutmaster, Ed Hermanson, ensures they are well organized and strives to make the best possible experience for each and every troop member. The Mission Statement of the adult patrol is to "To guide, teach, and inspire the leaders of the future." The Scoutmasters are strictly committed to "Two Deep Leadership" to ensure the safety of our scouts.

Strong support from the Troop 380 Committee is an important part of our ongoing success. It is staffed by more than ten participating parents and ex-scouts. The Committee Chair, Teresa K, is always looking for new and excited parents who want to participate and help in providing the boys with the most rewarding experiences possible.

The troop has 12 adults who are registered to council more than 50 varying Merit Badges.

The Scoutmasters and Troop Committee members of 380 have completed Youth Protection training.

A founding and primary goal of Troop 380 leadership is to ensure the boys have fun. Some examples of activities outside of our meetings include: multiple camping trips for the boys and families, Summer Camp, Hiking, Volunteer work, visits to Flagstaff Extreme and Heard Museum, as well as Ice Skating and many other events. During 2014 we traveled to Yosemite National Park for Summer Camp and hiked Vernal Falls.
