Service Unit Meeting Minutes

Team Strange S/U Meeting   Minutes                                                                       6 Feb 12

~We need a volunteer to be our Event Planner-CONTACT Tammy Strange

~Official Girl Scout Functions: WEAR CLOSED-TOE SHOES!!! We must abide by all Girl Scout Rules.  At Thinking Day, there were at least 6 participants who were not following this rule.  From this point on, participants who are not abiding by this rule will be asked to leave the event.  If the leader, or adult in charge, is the one at fault, the entire troop must leave.  Please don’t allow this to happen.  This information is discussed in Safety Wise and can be found on the GSHG Website.

~COOKIES!  Pick-up Saturday, 11 March @ a Tobacco Warehouse in Hahira. (Near Dollar General) Address – 201 BJ Miley Street, Hahira, GA 31632     If you are picking up +100 cases, bring help. NO KIDS PLEASE!  It is too dangerous and far too confusing.  The only exception is if you have 8th graders or up.  It will be a “Drive-Thru” system, so line up your accompanying vehicles convoy-style (altogether).  Be patient, it could be a long process and possibly a “hurry up and wait” situation.  Before you leave with your cookies they must be counted, counted, counted.  Remember, COOKIES=MONEY$$$.

~Cookie Cupboards are in Lake Park and Tifton.

~Keiya, our GS Intern, is available for Booth help on Fridays and Saturdays.

~Adult Recognition Nominations are due on 10 February.

~Girl Scout Sunday is 11 March.  This starts with your Church as a dedicated day to recognize and celebrate Girl Scouts-CONTACT Bridget Colosimo

~Super Saturday  17 March @ Trinity Baptist Church Grounds in Valdosta.  This is a special day for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to show off their skills.  Festival Style Booths where your girls can teach others a simple, age-appropriate skill and earn petals, try-its, etc.  This is an all day event, including FREE hot dog dinner, ending with a bon-fire at night with lots of fellowship.  If interested in an “indoor camping experience”, there is a possible Lock-in for girls inside the church.  CONTACT Becky Mantz at rbknmantz@hotmail.com  for more information and to sign up your troop for a booth.  This promises to be a blast for our Girl Scouts.  Please come.

~VSU Shamrock Project  24 March  Kappa Delta is hosting a Flag Football Event and is in need of girls that can help out, being a “water-girl”, for example.  CONTACT Bridget.

~VSU Dance Team is looking for girls ages 6-9 years old to participate in an event on 19 April.  It will be sort of like a mini-camp ending with a performance.  CONTACT Bridget ASAP.

~TRAINING IN VALDOSTA!  If you want training (like Outdoor Skills )to be closer to home, go to the next training offered by Laura Flanders.  She is one class away from ensuring classes be held here locally!

~GA’s First Lady, Mrs. Deal, is in search of Take Action Projects and other big projects or events involving our Girl Scouts.  The more our girls are involved, the better chance South GA has of getting a visit from Mrs. Deal.  GET INVOLVED!  She is truly interested in Scouting, and we have a lot to offer her.

~Various Badges/Patches were available for pick-up at this S/U meeting.  The following troops were not represented, and therefore still need to receive theirs:  119, 389, 411, 417, 514, and 582.
