Welcome to Troop 427s Home on the Web

What is our approach?  We are a boy-run troop.  This means the boys in the troop are in charge of running meetings, planning campouts, and the yearly schedule.  Adults involved in the troop work behind the scenes and offer guidance but try to stay out of the way.  Watching the boys plan a campout, unload the trailer, put up the dining canopy and flagpole, and set up their own tents is wonderful to watch!

Boys are encouraged to use the Patrol method for planning, questions and sometimes problem resolution—asking first their patrol leader then going to the Assistant or Senior Patrol Leaders if needed, before consulting adults.  This method encourages leadership, teamwork, and responsibility for the boys involved.  As they progress through the different ranks, they learn to guide younger boys while looking to older boys for direction.  We feel this style of leadership has contributed to most boys who begin with this troop achieving the rank of Eagle—it has become part of the culture of this troop.

Activities our troop is involved in include monthly campouts, 10 days at Bartle Scout Reservation every summer, numerous service projects as well as Eagle projects, and bi-annual High Adventure trips where boys 14 and older who are at least Star rank can experience a more independent trip.  Recent trips include trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Arkansas’ Buffalo River and white-water rafting and mountain climbing at Horn Creek in  Colorado.

If you or your son is a Webelos Scout, a boy who is 11 years old or have completed fifth grade, and you would like to check us out, we would love to see you. We meet at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Raymore at 7:00 on Tuesday evenings. If this sounds good to you, contact us at 816-919-1427 or click on the contact button above for more information. Or feel free to stop by for a visit.
