How does cub scouts work?

Cub Scouts is arranged where the boys meet in "Dens" with similarly aged boys.  Den meetings are held at the direction of the den leader, and can vary from every week to once or twice a month.  All dens meet together once a month for a "Pack" meeting.  Pack meetings are set by the Cubmaster and the Pack Committee and include special events, fun activities, recognition of tasks completed, and some advancement.  Pack meetings are held once a month and usually in the gymnasium of St. James School.
A few times a year the pack gets together with other packs as a "District" for special outdoor activities such as camping.  All district events are family events, with the entire scouts family invited to attend and participate.

Frequently, den meetings are geared towards advancement for the different ranks that a boy can earn.  Some advancements are relatively easy, while others are much more complex and may take multiple meetings to complete.

Boys are sorted into the dens by the grade level they attend in school.
First Grade - Tiger Cubs
Second Grade - Wolves
Third Grade - Bears
Fourth Grade - Webelos 1
Fifth Grade - Webelos 2

After finishing cub scouts the boys can move on to Boy Scouts, which is designed for boys aged eleven through eighteen.  Pack 73 is affiliated with Troop 73 also in Springfield.
