What is Cub Scouts All About?
Since 1910, the Boy Scouts of America has provided strong, value-based programs that strengthen character, develop good citizenship, and enhance both mental and physical fitness in youth—traits that prepare young people to make the best decisions for today and tomorrow.

Cub Scout Pack 442 has been active at Tinley Park Community Church for over 30 years. Cub Scouting is designed for boys in 1st to 5th grades. Boys meet in small groups divided by grade level called dens several times a month. Once a month, the entire Pack gets together to share in fun activities such as art days, sporting events, collecting food for those in need throughout the community, doing community clean-ups, hikes, the annual Pinewood Derby, and award meetings where we celebrate the achievements of the boys.

Cub Scouting encourages each boy to strive for his personal best, a lesson that will help him achieve success as he enters Boy Scouting and throughout his adult life. Cub Scouting activities encourage character development, physical coordination, spiritual growth, family unity, and enthusiasm for learning. Cub Scouting helps boys develop a sense of teamwork, achievement, self-confidence, and respect for others. Learning to master new skills helps the Cub Scout realize his own abilities and discover that his can-do attitude is the first sign of success in any endeavor. In fact, that’s the Cub Scout motto: Do Your Best.

What will my son do as a member of Pack 442?

Monthly Pack Meetings:
We meet on the third Tuesday of every month at the Tinley Park Community Church in Tinley Park.  Pack meetings start at 7:00 and are usually centered around a theme. Pack meetings can include: guest speakers, crafts, games and group activities.  We hand out any awards or advancements they have earned. This is also where parents get information about upcoming pack events and fundraisers.

Den Meetings:
This is where the boys meet with their den (Tiger, Wolf, Bear or Webelo) and den leader.  The leaders will have planned events to do at the meetings that will help the boys work toward earning their rank advancement.  Much of the work in their scout handbooks is done at home with their families, the boys should bring their handbook to every den meeting so their leader can track their progress.

Parades:
Tinley Park Parade of Lights in the winter and  Tinley Park Irish parade in the spring (add something about how long the parades are...etc)

Raingutter Regatta:

Pinewood Derby:
Cub Scouts wouldn’t be Cub Scouts without the Pinewood Derby!  Each boy builds a car from a block of wood and then enters it in our Pack 442 “Race Day of Fun”.  There’s food, sportsmanship, prizes and lots of  FUN!!

Blue and Gold Banquet:
This is where the Cub Scouts say thank you to their families while celebrating the anniversary of Cub Scouting.  We hold a formal banquet where scouts invite their parents, grand parents, aunts and uncles to come see what they have achieved and to thank them for their support. There is entertainment, food and awards presented.
