In attendance:
Clara, Maciaha, Libby, Olivia (70424 friend)
Nikkira came later and picked up her sewing kit, fabric, and stuffing.

We learned the basics of making a pizza from a pizza mix.
  1. Preheated Oven to 450
  2. Mixed 1/2 cup warm water and little bit of EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) to the powder mix in the bowl and mixed with a fork then our clean hands
  3. covered and let sit for 10 minutes
  4. spread out on pan
  5. add Sauce, cheese and toppings
  6. put in oven for 10 minutes
  7. Take out of oven, let sit 8 minutes
  8. Move to a wooden pizza board and cut
  9. EAT!

We also started sewing techniques
1. Threading a needle
2. Different hand stitiches

Everyone received a small pink sewing kit.  Some of the needles weren't that great.

Girls decided the next meeting we should learn crochet and embroidery.

11/9/2014 - First Crochet Meeting

In attendance:
Jayla, Imari, Libby, Clara, Marindia

Girls started learning crochet!  They received hooks and a ball of pink yarn to practice with.
We shared a box of Pumpkin Creme Oreos
We talked a bit about our goals and what we wanted to learn.
By the end of the meeting we were making great chains.

A pattern we passed out is http://www.petalstopicots.com/2013/12/wreath-crochet-pattern/

Check out YouTube for CrochetCrowd resources for videos for free beginner crocheting!  I will also post a video.  The way I hold the yarn is called "continental" and I hold it this way for knitting too so my fingers are free for holding the new "yarn fabric".  Don't be frustrated, it takes time.  Just relax and have fun!  These are small projects girls can complete in 30 minutes.

Basically this pattern is:
  1. chain 18, slip stitch to join
  2. chain 1, [* half double crochet (hdc) 4 times into the next loop, skip a chain, slip stitch into that chain, skip a chain *]
  3. repeat the [* *]'ed repeat and slip stitch to end.

This craft will be used to make over 140 wreaths from all 5 Girl Scout troops from Maple Heights/St. Martin of Tours/St. Benedict Catholic School!

Another way of doing this is the following pattern:
  1. Chain 12, slip stitch to join to the top loop. (can also use a "milk tie" - the plastic ring that keeps a milk cap on - to use instead of chaining  reuse/recycle!! Think of other rings you could use.)
  2. Chain 3, Double crochet into the "ring" (not the stitch).
  3. Continue Double Crochet into the ring, moving the stitches together until a flat circle is made.
  4. Slip stitch to the top of a double crochet and finish off.
I will post pictures later, just wanted to get this out there.
