General Information

Uniform Requirements:

Troop 758 requires that each scout has the official BSA uniform shirt. The troop provides a neckerchief, slide, hat and Troop T-shirt to each scout.

Rank Advancement:

We provide many opportunities for scouts to complete their requirements for advancement during the weekly meetings &monthly outings.  Scouts are responsible for tracking their own progress, but they are guided by older scouts & our adult leadership. The Patrol Leaders are key to helping the new scouts along in their quest for rank.

Merit Badges:

Troop 758 offers ample opportunities to earn merit badges throughout the year. We have an extensive list of registered meritbadge counselors in the troop for almost any merit badge the scout would want or need to earn.

Parent Involvement:

All parents are encouraged to play an active role in Troop 758.  We ask that all parents complete the Adult Scout Application form and take the on-line Youth Protection Training course, which can be found at www.scouting.org.The course will take less than 30 min.

This is Scouting and The Committee Challenge are also short training courses that are highly recommended and can also be found on-ling at www.scouting.org

There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer for the troop.  There are currently some vacancies on the Troop Committee, and there are always other individual tasks that the troop needs assistance with.  Don’t hesitate to contact any of the Troop Committee members with your interests.

Camping:

Monthly camping trips are usually held the 1st weekend of each month.  July is a week-long summer camp.  The troop typically camps both Friday and Saturday nights. Summer camp locations change each year to give the Scouts new experiences, most recently in NJ, PA, NC and VA.

To ensure adequate supervision during the campouts, it is recommended that one parent of each scout camp at least one time a year.

Fundraisers:

The troop supports two BBQ Chicken sales events each year.   The two events are held the last Saturday in April and September concurrent with the Crofton Festival. Scout and parent participation is mandatory and each scout must sell a minimum number of tickets. Other fundraisers are scheduled throughout the year as deemed necessary.

Registration Fees:

There is an annual fee of $50.

Merit Badge Counselors:

We are looking for merit badge counselors.  The merit badge counselor is a key player in the Boy Scout advancement program. Whatever your area of expertise or interest—whether it is a special craft or hobby (basketry, leatherwork, coin collecting), a profession(veterinary medicine, aviation, engineering), or perhaps a life skill (cooking, personal management, communications)—as a merit badge counselor, you can play a vital role in stirring a young man's curiosity about that particular topic. By serving as a merit badge counselor, you offer your time, knowledge, and other resources so that Scouts can explore a topic of interest.  There are over 120 merit badges from a variety of fields and they are continually adding new badges such as the recently added kayaking, search & rescue and welding merit badges.  By having a wide range of counselors within our troop, your son can complete the merit badges quickly rather than having to meet a counselor from another troop who may not be available.

If you are not yet a merit badge counselor, it is easy to become one. If you are not a registered Adult yet, you will need to complete an "Adult Application" and the Merit Badge Counselor form(attached).   If you are already registered as an adult, just copy your BSA ID and complete the Merit Badge Counselor form
