Crew 4242 is a community Venturing Crew based in Hyrum, UT focused on travel adventures and foreign cultures. We welcome boys and girls ages 14 (or 13, having completed 8th grade) through 20. Boys that have completed First Class with a regular Troop can complete their Eagle and Palms with us. Girls and boys with any level of scouting experience can rise through the Venturing program's ranks and earn their Summit Award. Summit requires a lot of hard work, like Eagle. It also qualifies the recipients for scholarships and other benefits, just like Eagle. We also have several merit badge counselors in our leadership, and plan regular merit badge workshops. While our girls can't earn official BSA merit badges, they aren't at all left out. We have designed our own "pink cards" and anyone completing official BSA merit badge requirements can earn a Crew Award for their effort.
When our crew isn't working on rank and awards, we're learning about other cultures and planning trips. We travel as often as our fundraising efforts allow. It may take time and effort, but our youth always have the opportunity to earn their own way. Most of our youth use our crew fundraisers to pay for uniforms, travel costs, and event fees. The youth choose a different country to learn about each month and bring native food, music, and games to two crew meetings per month.
