Welcome to Pack 3055!

Welcome! We are so excited to have you join the Pack 3055 Scout family!

The goal on this information page is to familiarize you with the Pack 3055 and Cub Scouts.  Cub Scouting is designed to allow boys and their families to “have fun and adventure in a program that builds character and instills values”.  The goal of the program is to give elementary age boys the chance to explore new areas with their families and fellow den members.  Scouting isn’t just about the scout, but about the scout and his relationship to Akela, which is the first person you will learn about as you begin your scouting journey.

Who is Akela?  Akela is any adult leader in a boys’ life: parents, grandparents, teachers, and Cub Scout leaders.  Cub Scouting is meant to be a program for both the boy and his family.  It teaches him the 10 Purposes of Cub Scouting.

It takes all of us, Boys + Family + Leaders, to have a Successful scouting experience.

Uniform & Handbook
Each boy is required to have the following uniform components (Class A): (see picture here) NOTE: We have fundraisers and other ways you can earn this uniform or "experienced" shirts. See one of our leaders once you join us!!

  • appropriate den level handbook
  • shirt (short or long sleeved…either is fine)
  • neckerchief
  • neckerchief slide (may be handmade, often in den meetings)
  • World crest insignia for over left pocket
  • Council patch (Gerald R Ford) to wear at top of left sleeve
  • Pack unit numerals to wear under council patch (pack has these available to purchase)

Everything else is optional: hat, pants, belt (though belt is good if the scout earns belt loops), brag vest for segments, etc. See Uniforms page for proper placement of patches and examples of the brag vest.

The uniform should be worn in a respectful manner (tucked in, neat, button properly); once a year a uniform inspection is held at a pack meeting.  The Pack also has a Pack T-shirt that can be purchased. We consider this our Class B uniform and is appropriate to wear for summer and other similar events.

Uniforms and handbooks can be purchased at Cobblestone Hobbies in Holland or from scoutstuff.org.

Advancement
The first award that every Cub Scout must earn is the Bobcat badge.  This only has to be earned once in a scout’s career, but must be earned before any other award can be given.  The Bobcat teaches basic Cub Scout knowledge – handshake, motto, save scouting, etc.  It is very important that you and your son work on achieving this first rank together at home.

Each rank of Cub Scouts works towards achieving its appropriate rank badge, e.g., Tigers work on the Tiger badge, Wolves work on the Wolf badge, etc.  There are various achievements that are required to earn this badge, all of which are outlined in the handbook.  Achievements should be worked on before any other award, or in conjunction with another award.

In addition to earning the rank badge, there are many electives or academic/sports (belt loops and pins), and other awards that can be optionally earned (see Awards page).  Many times, while working on an activity for rank, you are completing another requirement for a belt loop or other award.

Leaders will try to incorporate as many achievements into the weekly meetings as possible, but it is generally not possible to work on them all as a den.  In fact, some of the achievements REQUIRE that they be completed with family.  Achievements are not meant to be seen as “homework”, but as opportunities for the boys to grow as individuals and as part of the family.  See them as learning experiences, and encourage your scout to take initiative and work on them when he has spare time.

Pack Events
Throughout the year there are various pack and council sponsored events that are fun for the whole famil
y Pack 3055 plans one family activity every month.  Our Private site lists all monthly activities.  Den Meetings and Pack Meetings are required, however, additional pack and council events are all optional.  You can be as active in our pack as you want to be.  Some of our Pack Activities include:

Good Turn -  This is a pack service project to benefit the community, such as a park clean up, Scouting for Food (food shelf collection) or tree planting.

Pinewood Derby - Parent and son work together to build a gravity-powered miniature race car from a special kit. Pack 3055 conducts a Pinewood Derby race annually.

Blue and Gold Banquet One of the highlight events of the scout year when Webelos 2 crossover into a Boy Scout Troop.  Dinner and a special program and/or entertainment is customary.

Cub Scout Day Camp - Day Camp is an exciting summertime activity that includes archery, BB guns, crafts, games, sports, songs, and skits. This week long program is held at local parks and facilities in your area. Cub Scout Day Camp is an excellent way to introduce youth to the outdoors and teach them new skills. It also helps strengthen the packs summer program.

Cub Scout Resident Camp
Cub Scout Adventureland Camp is held at Camp Gerber in Twin Lake Michigan. This is another summertime event for Cub Scouts and an accompanying parent or guardian. Program activities include swimming, outdoor cooking, nature, crafts, Scouting skills, and much more.
