What is Girl Scouting?

What is Girl Scouting?
Since its inception in 1912, Girl Scouts has been committed to building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Today, we’ve made even a bigger commitment to developing future leaders, talking to thousands of girls across the country and listening to what they have to say about becoming leaders. This dialogue formed the basis of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Through programs that include science and technology, business and economic literacy, visual arts, and outdoor and environmental awareness, Girl Scouting encourages girls to discover themselves, connect with others and take action to make the world a better place.

Girl Scouts is for all girls in kindergarten through 12th grade, and women and men 18 years of age and older who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law and pay the $12 annual membership fee.

The Three Keys of Leadership
At the heart of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience are three very simple keys:
Discover + Connect + Take Action = Leadership

•Discover - Girls understand themselves and their values while using their knowledge and skills to understand the world.
•Connect - Girls inspire and connect with teams and others locally and globally.
•Take Action - Girls feel empowered to make a difference in the world.
These three keys add up to Leadership.
