Are there misconceptions about Scouting?    

    There is belief that Boy Scouting needs to be a year-round commitment to receive the benefits of the program and that it is only about little more than camping and community service.  Yes these are components of the program, but for over 100 years, Scouting has been the country’s leading program for aiding in the development of boys into young men of character with life skills, citizenship, and the ability to lead.

 

    
    We are believers in using varied avenues for developing our youth, and fortunately our town offers many.  Focusing on only one area cannot always offer the greatest advantage.  Leaders of our Troop are involved in the community as sports coaches and actively supporting youth clubs.  Scouting has been a complement to our son’s development.   When time permits they participate in our Tuesday meetings or attend Scout Camp which is an amazing outdoor experience.   When it comes to Scouting we develop leadership skills, planning skills in learning how to organize projects from start to finish, but most importantly what it means to be respectful, a good citizen, and a man of character.  Our more senior Scouts learn the benefit of guiding and teaching others as they are responsible for activities for the younger Scouts.    By participating in community activities and supporting their programs the boys learn, there is something more than themselves and the value they can bring to others.

 

    Our Troop is comprised of such an amazing group of boys who participate in sports teams and academic teams as well clubs like debate, robotics and theater and much more. They take the experience of doing these activities, while earning badges by participating in these programs.  We at Troop 15 are committed to the character development of our Scouts and preparing them for life. We have organized our troop so that whether your son is available year round or just a season or two, he stills gets to reap the benefits of being a part of this amazing team.
