Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be to join Cub Scouts?
You must be entering first grade or 7 years of age. You can continue in Cub Scouting until you are either 11 years old or the end of 5th grade.

How do I join Pack 28?
Your mom or dad can contact Mrs. Gucciardo at arbitor36@hotmail.com or call the Hudson Valley Council at 845-566-7300 ext. 302 and ask for the Heritage District , and he will direct you to several different Packs in the area. You can make plans to visit each Pack to see which one fits your families schedule the best. We hope it is ours!

How much does it cost to be in Cub Scouts?
Cub Scouting is a not for profit, self funded program, which means that all of the Scouts and their family members agree to help the Pack meet it's fundraising goals to pay for their program. Our Pack participates in the annual Council popcorn sale, and might hold other fundraisers throughout the year to help keep costs down for the Scouts and their families. The goal is for each Scout to fundraise to cover his costs.
The Annual National Dues are 15.00 to register a Scout for the year.
There is a 3.00 cost to cover the Scout or Adult by our supplemental insurance. This insurance is supplemental to your own insurance coverage and is inforce during Scout activities.
We also give each family a subscription to Boys Life Magazine. The cost of this subscription is 12.00.
We have Pack dues, which are determined by the needs of the Pack each year.  These dues are paid by the family directly to the Pack or the Scout may opt to fundraise to cover his portion of the expenses during his Scouting year.

What are Den Meetings?
Den Meetings are the age level groups of boys who meet with their Den Leader once a week to work on achievements and awards.

Do I need a uniform? You don't need a uniform right away but we are a uniformed Pack, which means that we hope to see you in uniform by the Blue and Gold Luncheon in February. Your Den Leader will tell you what insignia to purchase, and if the cost of the uniform is of concern, please don't hesitate to contact one of the Pack Committee Members or the Cub Master. We have options available to help with the cost of the uniform.

What do I need to have for a Den Meeting? Each Cub Scout should have his own copy of his age level handbook. And a smile!

What is the family obligation to the Pack? Den Leaders are selected from the parents of the Scouts. Those who do not serve in Den Leader positions are tapped to fill vacancies in the Pack Committee , or to serve as Chairmen for one of the many events and outdoor programs we offer during the year. Each family will have one adult member serve in some capacity to help either in the Program area or the Committee that is responsible for the overseeing and operations of the Pack.
