History Patch
Making Girl Scout History Patch

Learn about Juliette Gordon Low, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, World Centers, the history of Girl Scout Cookies, and camping!  The Making Girl Scout History Patch program offers troops and individual girls of all ages an opportunity to learn something new about the history of Girl Scouting while enjoying a variety of activities.  Complete the following requirements to earn the Making Girl Scout History Patch.  Do activities that are appropriate for your girls.  If your girls are knowledgeable with the requirements in one level, challenge them by doing the requirements in the next level.  If they are unfamiliar with the subject, do the requirements in the previous level.  Flexibility is built into this program on purpose.  The important thing is for the girls to learn new information on the basics of Girl Scouting. (NOTE: Additional year bars referred to in the document have not yet been developed.)

Patches can be purchased in the Council Shop.

Requirements

Wizarding Badge

1. Using Baking soda and vinegar create a bubbly effect in a container. You will need baking soda, vinegar, spoon and a cup. Using the spoon measure out one teaspoon of baking soda. Fill the cup 2/3 full of vinegar. Place the baking soda on the spoon and pour it in the cup. Wait for the fizz explosion.

2. Try making invisible ink by using lemon juice and paper. You will need at q-tip, lemon juice, paper, and a light bulb. Write a message on the paper with the q-tip. After it dries hold it up to a light bulb and it will reveal the message you wrote.

3. Make a tornado in a bottle. You need water, clear plastic bottle with a cap, glitter, and dishwashing liquid. Fill the plastic bottle with water until it reaches around three quarters full. Add a few drops of dish washing liquid. Sprinkle in a few pinches of glitter (this will make your tornado easier to see). Put the cap on tightly. Turn the bottle upside down and hold it by the neck. Quickly spin the bottle in a circular motion for a few seconds, stop and look inside to see if you can see a mini tornado forming in the water.

4. Experiment with static electricity. You will an inflated balloon and pieces of paper cut in squares. Rub the balloon against your hair to create the static electricity and place it over the paper. How many pieces of paper did you pick up?

5. Attend a wizardy event or create a fun event or wizard themed party for your friends.

6. Experiment with ice and create a special treat using the freezer. You can make homemade ice pops or ice cream sandwiches.

7. Melt something and create it into something else. Examples are melting old crayons into new ones or melting chocolate into molds. Parent assistance is needed for melting items.

8. Make a wand, accessory, or item to assist you in creating your experiments.

9. Using your senses, see if you can smell or feel three items by being blindfolded.

10. Create a plant or flower from using a seed or identify different herbs or plants by their appearance.
