Recent Activities

Some Of Our Recent Activities:  A goal of the Troop is to offer at least one outdoor activity each month.  Here is a list of our recent activities:

Activity

Description

Camping

We do camping!  Hardscrabble Road in Sterling, high adventure-longer trips like Long Trail in Vermont, a little bit of “car camping” like Isaac Davis Trail in Concord.

Summer Camp

Each year Troop 1 sends nearly all the boys in the troop, along with several adult leaders, to Camp Wanocksett in Dublin, NH for one week.  Once a boy has been to camp (and tried archery, shotguns, rifles, boating, swimming, canoeing, trading post…) they don’t want to miss a year!

Hiking & High Adventure

Day hikes including Mt. Wachusett and Wapack Trail.

Weeklong hike of Long Trail (250 mile trail the length of Vermont, we hike one of five sections every summer).  We also take day trips and longer trips canoeing and kayaking.

Rock Climbing

Indoors:  day trip to Central Rock in Worcester, overnight to Carabiners in New Bedford

Outdoors:  ½ day trip to Crow Hill in Leominster

Winter Sports

One or more of these every winter:  Tubing night, Cross Country skiing, Alpine skiing.

History

We walk the Freedom Trail annually, and the Isaac Davis Trail on Patriots Day.

Leadership

Troop 1 is a boy run troop, engaged adults are critical, but the boys learn leadership skills by assuming major responsibilities in the management of the troop.

Public Service

Troop 1 encourages public service, examples include helping at the Houghton Pasta Supper and the Spooky Walk.  We’ve been very successful at helping boys attain the highest rank of Eagle Scout, which requires a troop-supported public service project.
