PACK 308'S FAQ'S

Q: My son is joining Cub Scouts. How much does it cost?
A:
BSA Registration is $15.00 per year, starting in December. If you join part-way through the year, the amount is pro-rated.  In addition there is an additional $10 fee to help cover the cost of awards.

Q: I was asked about a subscription to Boy's Life Magazine. What (and how much) is that?
A: Boy's Life is a magazine which almost every Cub Scout in the nation eagerly anticipates each month. See the cubmaster or committee chair for details.

Q: Do the individual Dens collect dues?
A:
Many dens collect a small amount at each den meeting, to help cover the cost of craft materials. Each den will implement its own policy.

Q: What exactly do I need to get?
A:
Let's break this down into pieces...

If your son is in First Grade
. He will be in a Tiger Cub den. He will need:
1. Tiger Cub Handbook
2. Blue Cub Scout Shirt
3. Patches for shirt (Numbers 308, Heart of America Council, World Crest)
(note: the American Flag patch is usually on the shirt already)
4. Blue Cub Scout Belt
5. Orange Neckerchief & Cub Scout Slide

If your son is in Second Grade. He will be in a Wolf den. He will need
1. Wolf Cub Handbook
2. Blue Cub Scout Shirt
3. Patches for shirt (Numbers 308, Heart of America Council, World Crest)
(note: the American Flag patch is usually on the shirt already)
4. Blue Cub Scout Belt
5. Gold Neckerchief & Cub Scout Slide

If your son is in Third Grade. He will be in a Bear den. He will need
1. Bear Cub Handbook
2. Blue Cub Scout Shirt
3. Patches for shirt (Numbers 308, Heart of America Council, World Crest)
(note: the American Flag patch is usually on the shirt already)
4. Blue Cub Scout Belt
5. Light Blue Neckerchief & Cub Scout Slide

If your son is in Fourth or Fifth Grade. He will be in a Webelos Patrol. He will need
1. Webelos Handbook
2. Khaki Boy Scout Shirt
(note: A blue shirt is acceptable, but he will be wearing khaki in 2 years anyway)
3. Blue Epulets (loops worn above the shoulders on the khaki shirt)
4. Patches for shirt (Numbers 308, Heart of America Council, World Crest)
(note: the American Flag patch is usually on the shirt already)
5. Green Boy Scout Belt (Blue belt is acceptable)
(note: Many boys wear blue belts, because the CubScout academic and sports awards
will not fit on the green belt)
6. Webelos Neckerchief (red/blue checked) & Webelos Slide

Q: What about hats, shorts, socks, stocking caps, brag vests and and and...
A
: These are all optional. Pack 308 considers the official boys' uniform to be from the waist up.

Q: Where do I get this stuff?
A: Brandt's (on the square in Liberty) carries Cub Scout items. In addition, the Scout Shop for the Heart of America Council is located at I-435 and Holmes Rd.

Q: I agreed to be a Den Leader/Assistant Den Leader. Do I need stuff too?
A:
Yes. You will need a few items as well: (note: No uniform necessary for Tiger Cub Leaders, but it helps)
1. Cub Scout Leader Book
2. Same Handbook as your scouts (Optional- you might want to use your son's)
2. Khaki Boy Scout Shirt (Yellow Cub Scout blouse is acceptable for women)
3. Blue Epulets (loops worn above the shoulders on the khaki shirt)
4. Patches for shirt (Numbers 308, Heart of America Council, World Crest, (Assistant) Den Leader)
(note: the American Flag patch is usually on the shirt already)
5. Make sure you get agreements from other parents in your den to help, right away.
The "I'll do it if you will all help" strategy usually works well.
