Scouting for Food 2015

Souper Bowl of Caring

As a part of Scouting for Food, our council annually partners with Souper Bowl of Caring; a nationwide, grassroots, youth-driven effort to collect food for the needy, coinciding with the NFL's championship game. Together, we make up one of the largest food drives in Central Texas. Dates for Souper Bowl of Caring will be provided soon.

"Texas Hunger Fighters"

After Souper Bowl of Caring, we volunteer with the Capital Area Food Bank to help sort and inspect food donated through the food drive. This is an important job because the food cannot go to needy families until it has been sorted, inspected and boxed for distribution. Scouts who participate will earn a "Texas Hunger Fighter" patch from the Capital Area Food Bank. Registration for this will be posted soon.

Scouting For Food

The Scouting for Food campaign takes place from November through early February, collecting food in different ways at the unit, district and council levels. Your unit can help by:
  • going door-to-door with our "door knocking flyer" and asking for food donations
  • holding a food collection at a church, synagogue, mosque
  • organizing a food collection at a school
  • holding a food collection from your unit's families at a regular monthly meeting
  • using any other creative ideas you can think of!
