Who or What are Cub Scouts?

The Cub Scouts are the elementary branch of the Boy Scouts of America.  The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with over four million youth members in its age-related divisions. Since its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA. The BSA goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations.

What is a Pack?

A pack is a group of Cub Scouts, volunteer adult leaders and parents who belong to the same Cub Scout unit (e.g. Pack 946 of the Indian Nations Council). A pack generally draws its membership primarily from the local elementary schools or church that is associated with the pack's Chartered Organization. Each pack is made up of Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, Webelos and Arrow of Light dens.

Who runs the pack?

•     Committee Chair, Cubmaster, Treasurer, Secretary, and other committee members

•       Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders who are most directly involved with the Cub Scouts

An adult member of each Cub Scout household is encouraged to participate in a volunteer position or serve on a committee if at all possible.

What are Pack Meetings like?

Each pack meeting consists of advancements, recognition and awards to the individual Cub Scout, adult recognition, Cubmaster's messages and announcements. Also included are skits, songs and/or demonstrations from various dens. All Cub Scouts and at least one parent are strongly encouraged to attend. Each den brings their den flag to show their spirit.

When and where does Pack 946 meet?

As pack meetings may change, please check the schedule page or contact klord823@gmail.com to verify the meeting time.

Den meetings are held at each den leaders’ and parent groups discretion.  Most meetings will occur at the Legion Post but this may vary depending on special events or activities. Meetings are held at least twice a month for one hour each.

What is a Den?

A den is a small group of boys (ideally about 8-10) of the same grade level. Each den meets at least twice a month to work on achievements and other activities. The den is led by an adult den leader and an assistant den leader, who are responsible for planning and conducting each den meeting. Dens create their own den flag to be brought to pack meetings and carried in the local parades.  The most up to date meetings will be listed on the scheduling page of this website.

Adult and Family roles in Scouting

What is the parents' role in Scouting?

We need your help to keep our pack going. We have many functions within the Cub Scouts just waiting for someone like you. We are all volunteers and parents who want the best for our boys. We ask that you participate in as many activities and meetings as possible. Tiger Cubs are required to have at least one adult partner with them at all scouting functions per BSA rules.

Parent/Leader (Committee) meetings are held at 7 pm on the First Tuesday of the month the week prior to the pack meeting for the purpose of planning and organizing pack activities including future pack meetings, camping and overnight trips, service projects and other activities. All leaders and committee members are expected to attend and parent attendance and involvement is strongly encouraged.

What if I'm a Grandparent, or other caregiver, can I still participate?

Most definitely, as stated earlier, Cub Scouting is for families. We encourage all family members to be involved with their Scouts achievements and activities. We have enjoyed the company of many different family members on our camp outs.

Does our family participate in any activities?

Cub Scouting is for families. We encourage participation of all family members inmost of our events and activities. Our parents and siblings jump right in and enjoy the opportunities that Scouting has to offer. It is so beneficial for a scout to be able to share his accomplishments with his family. Cub World is a perfect example of a family activity.

We also participate in Scouting for Food, Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day activities with the city of Coweta and city of Tulsa. The Pack and or individual Dens will participate in at least 1'Go-See-It' or field trip every month.
