How Much Does Cub Scouts Cost?

The Scouting Program runs alongside the school year. Each Cub Scout and Leader must register for the coming year in the fall. The annual fee payment to Pack 354 is comprised of three components. Although the dues represent three distinctly different things (and cover different periods of time), we collect them all at the same time – in the fall of each Cub Scout year before October ends.

ATTENTION
As of December 1st 2017, The Boy Scouts of America will be changing it's registration fees from $24 a year to $33 a year.

National Registration Fees - $37
This fee is paid to the Boy Scouts of America Baltimore Area Council and registers the Cub Scout for the period from January through December. The pack does not use any of this money for it's program. Beginning Dec 1st 2017 , the National Dues are $37 ($33 registration fee plus $4 for accident insurance) per Cub Scout per year.

Boys’ Life Magazine – $12
This is the monthly magazine of the Boy Scouts of America. It’s a great magazine that reinforces Scouting and the good family values that are part of our program. Pack 354 strives for a 100% subscription rate for Boy's Life Magazine. Registration for Boys’ Life is optional, but highly encouraged as most scouts that subscribe love getting it in the mail every month. For more information, visit: www.boyslife.org

Pack Dues - $120 ( includes registration and boy's life )
Pack 354 charges annual Pack Dues to cover the cost of running the pack every year.

Your dues go toward many things like:
Advancement awards (up to 10 belt loops / pins) and rank badges
Pinewood Derby Car / Raingutter Regatta kits & awards
Holiday pack Meeting decorations and refreshments.
Off site field trips and summertime activity meetings
Weekly Den / Monthly Pack meeting materials.
Registration fees of adult leaders to the Boy Scouts of America.
Other misc. program costs (advancement tracking software, leader training, etc.)

Since 2016, the Pack has expanded the items that it will provide to each cub scout:
A short-sleeve Pack T-Shirt (known as a "Class B" uniform shirt.)
Pack 354 numeral and Den number patches (if needed)
Next year's rank handbook and neckerchiefs awarded during the Blue & Gold Banquet in April.

The amount is set each year in the summertime by the Pack Committee.
The Pack Dues cover the period from September 2017 through August 2018.

Cash & Checks can be collected before meetings. Please make checks out to "Cub Scout Pack 354" with the Scout's name on the memo line.

Pack 354 Budget 2016-2017

For the 2017-2018 Year, we will be publishing our budget for the Scouting Year.
The Pack Committee will be designing the budget during the summer.

Program items per Cub Scout:

Registration fees & Accident Insurance Fees
Boy's Life Magazine Yearly Subscription
Advancements: activity pins, belt loops, ranks
Handbook & Neckerchief by rank
Blue & Gold Banquet supplies
Pinewood Derby / Raingutter Regatta Materials
Field trips during the year
Program Materials: Ceremony supplies, bridge crossings, camping items, etc...
Pack 354 "Class B" Activity Uniform T-Shirt

The pack itself also has expenses paid as a pack. These include:

Registration fees & Accident Insurance Fees for each Adult Leader.
Pack fees to Baltimore Area Council & the BSA.
Leader Training fees & expenses.
Pack Unit Liability Insurance Fees.
Pack owned items upkeep, (Racetracks, display materials, consumables for meetings.)

As you can see, your Registration fees and Pack Dues only allot for some of the expenses of running a pack. This is why we will be doing a fundraiser starting September thru October of selling Popcorn!

We will be reviewing the budget and would love to hear feedback from Parents, whether it be suggestions of things to do during the year, or ideas to help out during meetings, We welcome all input!

Please contact the Cubmaster or any leader for comments.
