Expectations - Yours and Ours

What Can You Expect From Your Pack Leadership?

  1. Communication - We know communication is key to providing a good program for your family.  We employ a unit management system, Scoutbook, to help.  Using Scoutbook, you always have access to the Pack Calendar, the Pack Roster, and contact information for all our leaders.  Parents record all achievements completed away from den and pack meetings in their son's Scoutbook record. Den Leaders record den and pack achievements. This tool is critical to the successful management of our pack.

  2. Organization - Running a strong scout unit is nearly impossible without good organization.  Good organization comes with planning.  Our pack leaders meet every July to plan our entire program for the coming year.  Additionally, we meet quarterly to hone and work out details on events coming in the next 3 months.  We plan our work, and we work our plan.  After plans are set we update the Scoutbook calendar so the information is available to everyone.  Of course, things don't always go as planned, and sometimes it's hard to plan for every eventuality, but we do our best.

  3. Training - All our pack leaders receive Youth Protection Training developed by the BSA  as well as training that is specifically geared to their positions.  We also encourage our leaders to take advantage of other training opportunities, both in a classroom setting and on-line,  offered by Dan Beard Council.

What Do We Expect From You?

  1. At Home Achievements - At each level of cub scouting, there are assignments that your son will have to do at home.  Your den leader will ask that you and your scout complete these achievements together.

  2. Pack Level Volunteerism - Putting together fun, well-planned, and organized events for our scouts requires a great deal of effort.  We ask each family to volunteer to help with one event per year.  We don't expect you to jump in and volunteer to run the Pinewood Derby your first year in scouting, but we do ask that you help with something.  Decorating committees, food committees, camping committees, etc. always need to be staffed.  There are lots of small jobs required to make big events happen.  We appreciate any help you can give.

  3. Fundraising - If you have reviewed our Dues and Fundraising page, you already know that our pack relies on one large fundraiser each year in order to fund our program.  We ask your help.  We try to set reasonable fundraising goals at the pack level so that we can set attainable fundraising goals for our scouts.  We appreciate all your efforts and your co-operation.

  4. Flexibility and Understanding - Though we work hard to plan our pack meetings, events, and outings, sometimes things don't go to plan.  We ask you to understand when things don't work out quite the way we hoped forcing us to make ad-hoc changes to plans.

  5. Scouting for your children.  Almost all of the pack leaders are parents of scouts.  Parents determine what gets done, who does it and HOW MUCH FUN IT IS.  There is no scouting without parents.
