Frequently Asked Questions

How often do the Cub Scouts meet?

A year of scouting is comprised of many meetings, campouts, activities and ceremonies:

Pack Meetings – One meeting monthly, all year round. All Scouts and Parents in Pack 104 should attend. Pack meetings are a way to share news and perform skits/songs. Pack meetings are the time when scouts are awarded the badges and other advancements they have earned throughout the prior month.

Den Meetings – Den meetings are held once an week; September-May.  Den meetings are where you child will work on the bulk of their Achievements. Den meetings are usually held at a school or a Den leaders house. The parents and the den leader agree on a meeting place.

Activities & Ceremonies – Throughout the year there will be other activities scheduled such as a Field Day, three or more Summer activities, Crossover, Blue and Gold Banquet, Pinewood Derby, Popcorn Kickoff, and more.

Campouts – Pack 104 holds 2 campouts per year at Katherine's Landing or Camp Levi Levi; One in Spring, one in Fall. Check the calendar for dates and details.

Camps – Las Vegas Area Council offers one day-camp and one resident-camp (three days) per year. These are optional summer camps that your Scout may participate in, to earn additional advancements that he might otherwise not have an opportunity to receive.

How does my son advance from year to year in Cub Scouting?

Each year of Cub Scouting has a set of Advancements that must be completed in order to earn the appropriate badge for that year. For example, when your son is in the Bear Den, there are 12 achievements that he must complete through the year in order to earn his Bear badge. Most achievements are worked on in Den meetings, however some are expected to be completed at home.

What if my son does not complete all of the achievements for a year?

If your son fails to complete the required achievements for a year, he may still crossover into the next year of Cub Scouting, however he will not receive his badge at crossover.

Who are the leaders in Cub Scouts?

The leaders of all Cub Scout Packs, including 104 are volunteers (usually parents of Cub Scouts), who are trained by the Las Vegas Area Council. Volunteering is a large part of Cub Scouting. All parents of Cub Scouts are encourage to volunteer in some fashion, as we all have skills that can contribute to the health of the Pack.

What are the responsibilities of a parent?

-Provide help and support for the den and pack
-Work with your scout on advancement projects and activities
-Attend pack meetings with your scout and support him when he receives his awards.
-Attend and assist with den outings
-Attend Cub Scout family campouts with your scout
-Hopefully, eventually volunteer to be a leader/parent helper
