Welcome to all New Tiger Cubs Families

Welcome to Cub Scouting. You have taken the first step on a long road that will hopefully culminate when you one day earn Scouting's highest honor the Eagle Scout Badge.

As with every journey it has to start by putting one foot in front of the other and with the support of your Akela you have taken that first step.

I encourage every family to purchase the Tiger Cub Handbook as soon as possible to give you an idea of what we will be doing during this Scouting Year and so you can begin working on the Bobcat requirements at home as well as during our Den meetings.

The Tiger Cub Handbook is available at the Scout Shop located on Government St. Near the Greyhound Bus Station. The hours of operation are Monday - Friday 10am to 5:30pm and Saturday 10am to 2pm. Here is a map that shows the Location Map

The next Den meeting

Make sure to contact me as soon as you have signed off on all your Cub Scouts Bobcat Badge Requirements, the boys who complete the requirements before the next Pack Meeting will receive their badges. I'll need to know how many to pick up.

Upcoming Events

I’d like to explain how we work on the badges.

The first thing we work on is getting the bobcat badge.  Every new scout, no matter what grade, must have this Badge completed before he can earn any of the others.  It’s pretty easy to get, we’ll work on it at the den meeting.

Once that’s done we’ll start working on the Tiger Cub badge. This is done by completing the Achievement section of the book. Pages 37-77.For each one of these done you get a bead to go on your instant recognition badge (picture on page 18) Den events, Family events and Go See its each get a different color bead.  If it’s done right, once you have 15 beads you’re ready to get your tiger cub badge.  The electives in the second half of the book earn beads.  You can complete these at any time, but we can’t give them out until After they get their tiger cub badge.

Den Meeting

Between now and the den meeting, please work with your boys with the material in the book on pages 25-35.This includes scout promise, Law of the pack, Webelos, Scout Sign,Handshake, Motto, and Salute.

During the meeting we’re going to go over these things with the boys so at the next Pack Meeting the boys that are ready can get their Bobcat badge.  We’re not going to make anyone recite the things by themselves. If they’re there and you agree that they know it well enough, that’s good enough for me.  All of this is the honor system.  You sign off on 1-8 and let me know via an email and I’ll  get everyone a badge to receive at the next Pack meeting.

Also, look in the book with your kids at the tiger badge requirements (1-5)   Some of these things we’ll do at the camping trip.

Pack Meeting

Always try to wear your uniform! Why? If our den does the flag ceremony, only kids in uniform (shirt, neckerchief, hat) can paticipate.
If your scout has earned an award they must be in uniform to receive it.
And don’t forget, they CAN wear their uniforms to school on Pack Meeting Days.

Please be thinking about some of these things that you can help organize:

Go see its - We have five total that are required for the Tiger Cub Badge, Mrs. Beam has found a great way to do our Library visit in October. We have completed the Fire Station Go see it and during the Camping trip we'll do the Den Hike. That leaves a sporting event and a visit to a Television/ Radio station or a newspaper. If anyone would like to get the information on these please let me know.

Electives can be worked on at any time with your child, keep track of the ones you complete and after he earns the Tiger Cub Badge we can start awarding the electives yellow beads.

Meeting One

If you have not picked up your tiger cub handbook please do so before the next Den Meeting. If you can't make it to the Scout Shop before then and would like me to pick up a copy for you let me know as soon as possible. The manual sells for $6.99

During our first Den Meeting we completed the Immediate Recognition Requirements, the Cub Scout Motto, The Cub Scout Sign and the Cub Scout Salute. We also completed Tiger Cub Requirement 1D - Making a scrapbook.

Don't forget your homework - Help your parents by doing a chore around the house!

Be ready to talk about the chore you helped with, was it hard? How well was it done? What does it mean to be responsible. Why is being responsible important? Are there chores you can do by yourself? In what other ways can you be responsible? Parents this will complete the Character Connection portion of Requirement 1F

During our next Den Meeting we'll be continuing with the Bobcat Requirements - The Cub Scout Promise, The Law of the Pack, the meaning of WEBELOS plus the Cub Scout Handshake, it's all included in the handout from last week so you can practice before the meeting. I've enclosed all three pages on the "Next Den Meeting" content section and will leave them there until everyone earns their Bobcat Badge.

I need someone to plan our go see it for Requirement 1G, let me know if you are interested.

Meeting Two

At our Second Den Meeting we continued working on the Bobcat Badge Requirements, the Law of The Pack, The Cub Scout Promise and the Cub Scout Handshake.

We completed requirement 2D - Participate in a Flag Ceremony.

We completed the character connection portion of requirement 1F Do a chore with your parents.

We have a volunteer who will plan our Go See It to the public library, we will let you know when everything is finalized.
