Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a year-round program uniquely designed to meet the needs of young boys and their parents. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness.  Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.  Family involvement is an essential part of Cub Scouting and parents are encouraged to play an active role in the program. Through interaction between parents, leaders, and friends, boys learn citizenship, compassion, and courage. This family-and community-centered approach to learning means that Cub Scouting is truly time well spent.

More Frequently Asked Questions

How often are the meetings?
Cub Scouts usually meet in their Dens two to three times each month, and a Pack meeting is held for all Cub Scouts and their families once a month. Beyond that, it depends on the Den and Pack: a Den may hold a special activity, such as a service project or visit to a local museum in place of one of the weekly meetings or in addition to the weekly meetings. Likewise, the Pack may conduct a special event such as an outing, campout, or service activity as an additional event, rather than a substitute for its monthly Pack meeting.
My son is involved in sports.  Will he still be able to join Cub Scouts?

Sports is a very important part of many boy's lives.  Several of our scouts also play one or more sports, are involved in school clubs, and/or are active in other church or school activities. We understand that there will be occasional schedule conflicts, this is not a problem.
You have a lot of fun events scheduled.  Is Cub Scouts going to cost a lot as the year goes on?

At Pack 99, we aim to keep the costs to the parents extremely low.  Most Pack Meetings, Pack Events, and Pack Conservation & Service Projects are FREE!  This includes all entertainment at the Pack Meetings!  The events that cost money are summer camp, the Blue & Gold banquet, Cubsicle, and any sporting game/museum overnighter.  All of the events that cost additional money are optional (though summer camp is strongly recommended), and are available at a discounted rate to Scouts and their familes.  Our ONE annual fundraiser pays for everything else!
What if our family can't make it to all of your great events?
We plan a lot of interesting and new events so that our families can take advantage of many exciting opportunites at reduced cost or group rates.  The families will also get to experience these events with their friends in the Den or Pack.  We encourage you to attend all of our Pack meetings, but the events are purely optional and available for those familes that want to and are able to attend.  Don't feel that you have to attend all of these events.
Is it going to be a problem if my son has a bedtime at 7:00 or 7:30pm on school nights?
Most parents of 1st or 2nd graders have this same concern.  Many Pack meetings are scheduled to start around 7pm, but are on Friday or Saturday nights (non-school nights).  Den meetings however are typically on weekday nights starting around 6:30 or 7pm and lasting about an hour.  Talk to your den leader about the scheduling time of your den meetings if you still have concerns.
How can I learn more?
The best way to learn about what a Cub Scout really does is to talk with a Cub Scout who is engaged in the program. Alternatively, you can learn more about the Cub Scout program by selecting "Contact Cubmaster" (above) and asking questions.
