What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a year-round program uniquely designed to meet the needs of young boys and their parents. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness.  Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.  Family involvement is an essential part of Cub Scouting and parents are encouraged to play an active role in the program. Through interaction between parents, leaders, and friends, boys learn citizenship, compassion, and courage. This family-and community-centered approach to learning means that Cub Scouting is truly time well spent.

Pack 116 is open to all boys in 1st through 5th grades. Boys may join the Pack in any of these grades and at any time of the year. The youngest scouts, Tiger Scouts, may join as soon as the kindergarten school year is finished. Our annual Registration Night is in August, but you can contact the Cubmaster anytime for info or to join.

We are families that live mostly in Fort Collins. Our Scouts primarily attend McGraw and Lopez Elementary school. Any boy can attend any Pack, but you should check the Unit Locator to see if your school has its own Pack.

The yearly dues for Pack 116 are about $125, which covers almost everything you will do or need for the year. This includes:

  • Annual Scout Registration/Dues
  • Scout Handbook
  • Family Camp in the summer
  • Boys Life subscription
  • Pinewood Derby car
  • Additional supplies for pack meetings
  • All advancement awards, patches and belt loops

Our Pack is about 30 boys organized by Dens. Each Den has 5 to 10 boys of the same grade level. Your son will be assigned to a Den with kids from his school whenever possible. You and your Den will decide when and where you will meet every week. Our Pack generally meets the Third Wednesday of every month from September through May at McGraw IB World School in Fort Collins. The Pack Meeting is a fun hour full of activities where your son will receive his awards. Check out our Pack Calendar for a list of the fun activities we have throughout the year!

Uniforms help to build a sense of community and discipline among the boys. The uniform items we require are the blue uniform shirt (must be worn tucked in) and the rank-appropriate neckerchief and corresponding neckerchief slide. Optional pieces like hats, belts and trousers are also available. Blue jeans or other trousers may be worn, but they should be clean and in good repair. Baggy, torn, or low-hanging shorts or pants are not acceptable parts of the Scout Uniform. Caps other than the uniform cap should be left at home. You may buy uniforms and other supplies at the Boy Scout store at the Loveland Outlet Mall.
