Why Our Pack Sells Popcorn
To offset the cost of scouting for families, our Pack participates in the Council-sponsored fundraiser: selling popcorn. This is a great fundraiser for the pack and the Council - 70% of the proceeds benefit scouting in our Council, with about half of that coming directly to our pack, and the remainder going to the Council to support and maintain camps and other scouting-related activities.
The popcorn sale will take as much time and effort as you and your scout want to put into it. For a motivated scout, the popcorn sale can be very rewarding, and is a great lesson for learning the benefits of hard work.
Benefits to Your Scout and Family:
- Teaches Scouts the value & process of setting and working toward goals
- Gives Scouts a strong sense of accomplishment through recognition
- Enhances communication, leadership skills and confidence in your Scout
- Scouts can earn gift cards and other prizes
- Scouts can earn discounts for summer camp
- Pack receives a commission of 30-35% of all sales, which goes to fund and support our pack's activities
Ways to Sell:
Take Order Forms - "Door to Door":
- The Scout (with adult supervision) goes door to door with a Take Order Form. Take Order Forms will provided in August, at the beginning of the popcorn season.
- The customer writes his/her order on the Take Order Form and the Scout collects the money.
- The Scout places the order with the pack's Popcorn Kernel, and delivers the popcorn to the customer after the pack receives it from Trails End.
Selling Online:
- With parental supervision, the Scout creates an account on the Trails End website: http://sell.trails-end.com/scout/register.
- As you are registering your scout it will ask for the following info. Council- Dan Beard, District- Ft Hamilton, and Unit- Pack 3919 Lord of life Lutheran Church
- Once the scout has an account, he can log in and follow instructions to send a pre-written email message to his out-of-town family and friends who would like to support his scouting activities.
- The items are shipped to the customer directly from Trail’s End, and the Scout and Pack receive credit for the Sale.
Storefront Sales: (Show and Sells)
- Storefront Sales make up a large part of our popcorn program. We've obtained permission from local businesses to set up a sales table in their entry-ways.
- At Storefront Sales, Scouts display popcorn and ask people to support Scouting by buying popcorn.

Our Goals!
Our popcorn sale is our ONLY fundraiser throughout the entire Scout year. The popcorn sale commissions are vital to our Pack as it funds our many programs and ceremonies we have throughout the year. We set a goal of $250 per scout-- This may seem like a lot, but product average price of $15-20 per item, it’s only about 15-20 items per scout!

Scout Bucks
Scout Bucks are a wonderful alternative to Physical Prizes for those Scouts who are trying to pay for Scouting activities.
Scout Bucks are essentially vouchers that can be spent at the Dan Beard Scout Shop or for camp and activity fees here in the Dan Beard Council. They can help to cover the cost of Cub Day Camp, Fun With Son, Camp Friedlander Boy Scout Camp, District Camporees, etc
Scout Bucks are offered as a choice for our Scouts who prefer Scout Bucks instead of prizes. As long as the total sales qualify a Scout may choose a prize from one level and scout bucks from another level. Example: A Scout who sells $550 may choose a prize from the $175 level and Scout Bucks from the $375 level.
