What to bring camping in the summer!



  SUGGESTED PACKING LIST FOR SUMMER CAMP   

The list below is recommended for those scouts attending Summer Camp. If you have any questions please discuss them with your troop leadership.

Required before leaving for summer camp:

  • "Signed" Permission slip
  • Medical forms (see the forms page)
  • Medicine, ONLY as required,  in the original containers with current dosage information
  • Sack lunch or dinner is usually required for the trip there. 

Uniform (to be worn while traveling, meals and ceremonies):

  • Boy Scout shorts or pants (convertible recommended)
  • Class A Uniform Shirt
  • Class B Troop 71 shirt
  • The Boy Scout's 10 Essentials

(Day pack to carry 10 essentials - this is required for every OUTDOOR outing a Scout attends)

  1. Pocket knife (with valid Toten' Chit card)
  2. First Aid kit
  3. Extra clothing
  4. Rain gear
  5. A flashlight
  6. Trail food
  7. Water
  8. Matches (with valid Firem'n Chit card)
  9. Sun protection (Sunscreen/sunglasses/hat)
  10. Trail map & compass
Other clothing:

  • Activity shirts (Class B or other scout-related or without any printing; dark green is preferred; poly shirts such as Under Armor or off brands are better than cotton)
  • Troop 71 Cap, other scouting cap, or wide-brimmed hat for shelter from the sun
  • Jeans/long pants
  • Extra socks (6 quality pairs recommended)
  • Extra underwear (6 recommended)
  • Swimming suit
  • Water shoes, sandals or old tennis shoes (To protect feet on the beach)
  • Rubber-soled shower shoes
  • Hiking boots or sturdy shoes (spare shoes recommended in case first pair gets wet)
  • Poncho or rain suit
Personal equipment:

  • Backpack or duffel for gear 
  • Day pack/small backpack for carrying supplies during the day
  • Sleeping pad 
  • Sleeping bag 
  • Pillow or pillowcase to stuff with clothing to use as a pillow
  • Laundry bag
  • Mess kit
  • Towel
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste,
  • Soap, shampoo, comb, towel
  • Flashlight
  • Insect repellent
  • Canteen or water bottle (1 quart or liter with clip recommended)
  • Boy Scout Handbook
  • Money for merit badge supplies, souvenirs and snacks

Optional:

  • Notebook and Pencil/pen
  • Camera with extra film
  • Drinking cup
  • Shaving gear (if needed)
  • Watch
  • Musical instrument
  • Wallet
  • Duffel-bag lock
  • Bible/book/religious text of choice

Prior to coming to camp, scouts are encourage to clearly mark all personal items with their name and troop number.

Your Scout Handbook is a good source for additional information on what to pack. 

Forbidden:

Items Which Are Specifically Forbidden Unless Prior Special Permission Is Given By The Scoutmaster Are Shown Below:

  • Radios, Tape Players, CDs, & electric games
  • Axes - The Troop has its own hatchets and axes for use if necessary.
  • Any types of explosives or fireworks
  • Any type of firearm
  • Other items, which are, considered a safety or health hazard as determined by the Scoutmaster.
