September

Pack Meeting September 21

Bring a Friend.  If you have a friend who may be interested in joining the cub scouts bring them to our opening meeting to learn more about our pack and what we do.

Agenda:

Department of Environmental Conservation has been invited to the pack meeting to talk about “Long Island Bats”.  Ron Gelardi from the DEC will lead this discussion.

We will learn about these common, yet elusive, creatures with an in-depth power point presentation.  Dispel common misconceptions about bats, and learn some amazing facts about the Earth’s only flying mammals.  Topics include bat anatomy, their role in the food chain, echolocation, diversity, and conservation.

Popcorn kickoff Flyers and information about this years popcorn drive will be discussed.

Operation Gratitude is a program run by AOL – Called AOL Homepage for Heroes.  The program provides care packages and letters to soldier’s stationed overseas, wounded warriors and veterans of previous conflicts.   During the pack meeting we will give the scouts the opportunity to write a note to one or more groups thanking them for their service.   We will forward these letters onto Operation Gratitude so that they can be sent to these guardians of our freedom.

This link below provides greater detail on the program and possible suggestions on what to say.

http://www.operationgratitude.com/get-involved/write-letters/

http://aolheroes.com/

Letters could be prewritten and brought into the pack meeting to save time if you plan to write to more than one group.  Letters should be able to fit into a standard size envelope.
